Lunch time in the Alps

In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing better than eating lunch outdoors in the middle of the mountains. Last August, I had the pleasure of spending six full days hiking in the French Alps at Vanoise National Park and there were plenty of places for a picnic lunch with a never-ending amount of spectacular views. A visit to Alpage de Ritord: A traditional cheese maker in the Alps

One of the oldest traditions in the region of Savoie is making cheese. Three alpine cheeses are made in this region of the French Alps: Abondance, Beaufort, and Comte. These cheeses evolved over time due to the unique, isolated community of alpine herders who collectively used their dairy supplies during the summer months to make large cheeses that were easy to transport down the valley into the markets.
