Nighttime in France

Nighttime is the day’s way of saying goodbye. Reminding us that yet another day of our lives has passed and it is time to rest before a new day begins. I love watching the color of the clouds and sky as night begins to fall over the mountains. It is my favorite time of day and brings me so much peace and reflection.

“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky”. –Rabindranath Tagore

Nightfall in Vanoise National Park, Savoie France.

“The sky grew darker, painted blue on blue, one stroke at a time, into deeper and deeper shades of night.” ― Haruki Murakami, Dance Dance Dance

“Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work”. – A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

While I enjoy nightfall best somewhere lost in nature, the onset of night is also quite lovely in cities as well. I love watching the magical light and colors bounce off the buildings as the sun begins to fall below the horizon.

  4. While those are all wonderful photos, I especially like the one with the light inside the house. There’s something so cozy and familiar about scenes like that. I really enjoy looking into rooms that are lit at night, not from any prurient interest but just to see the slice of interior and the feel of warmth and family.

Thanks Janet! Seems like that one is popular! That photo is of one of the lodges we hiked to in Vanoise National Park where the other mountain night shots are. It was my favorite lodge of all. Gorgeous, delicious food and so nice after camping for a few days!

  5. The Eagle Diaries – The Eagle Diaries began as a way of communicating our travels to our family and several groups of friends; mainly those attending a day respite centre for the frail aged and for people with a mental disability. What began as a grain of sand, quickly grew into a mountain; my emails being forwarded on to others in the surrounding area. We began meeting a lot of other happy wanderers, also interested in reading about our travels, so we added their names and email addresses, to an ever expanding list. By the time we arrived home after our first trip to Europe, several communities at home and abroad, read our stories and communicated their own. After many requests from readers, the Eagle Diaries became an online Blog. Enjoy the read … Enjoy the journey ...

Great website! Pretty cool to publish a novel! I have always wanted to but realized it may not be my strength. I love Marseille. I lived there in 1993 and the photos in this post were my first time back in 20 years! It was even better!

My parents traveled as much as they could, dragging stress around in the form of eight kids on trains, plains, boats and buses. This was my 'Hammock Lady' blog, and I really enjoyed sharing my travels here: http://adinparadise.wordpress.com/ In November 2013, I decided it was time for a change of scenery, so I started my blog afresh, and here it is. I love to travel, and have been fortunate enough to do two round-the-world trips and visit more than forty countries so far. This year we visited our 7th continent, Antarctica. I enjoy photographing wildlife, especially in my backyard in Florida. I was born and brought up in England. My husband and I emigrated to South Africa in 1970. We now live in Florida, USA. I have a son and a daughter and five gorgeous grandchildren currently aged between 6 and 21 years.
