The Rebirth of Spring

“May the sun bring you energy by day, may the moon softly restore you at night. May the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength onto your being. May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.” – Apache blessing

Spring has finally arrived full force in Minnesota and has washed away the barren brown and dirt, and sprung new life. All around, trees are bursting in electrifying green and the fragrant blossoming trees delight not only the eyes but their scent beckons the soul.

I always feel utterly alive and reborn once spring arrives here after a long, cold and often dreary winter. The energy of life and rebirth captivate my soul, as Mother Nature stuns us with her beauty.

“Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air’s salubrity”. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.” – Confuscius

“Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” – Kahlil Gibran

Perhaps Spring comes to remind us that not all is lost and dark. All that is cold and long shall soon be reborn and return. Oh Mother Nature, how I admire your resilience in face of so much strain.

This post was inspired by the Weekly Photo Challenge: Admiration. All photos were taken today at the Lake Harriet Rose Garden.

  1. Spring is definitely my favorite time of year! I love seeing all the new growth of tiny leaf buds and the burst of green and color. You have captured of so beautifully in your photographs. We are not usually in the U.S. at this time of year, but here we are on Chicago enjoying the first signs of Spring.

In our sixties, with apparently no other authentic option, my husband Don and I sold our apartment and car, sold or gave away all our stuff and set off to discover the world. And ourselves. We started in Italy in 2011 and from there have travelled to Spain, India, Bali, Australia, New Zealand, SE Asia, South America, Egypt, Japan, etc. - you can see the blog archive. We travelled full-time for nearly six years, and then re-established a home in Vancouver. We now travel 2-3 months per year. We are interested in how the world works, how life works, how the creation of experience works, how the mind works. As we travel and both "choose" our course, and at the same time just let it unfold, we discover the "mechanics" of life, the astounding creativity of life, and a continual need to return to trust and presence. Opening the heart, and acceptance of what is, as it is, are keystones for us both. Interests: In no particular order: travel, photography, figure skating (as a fan), acceptance, authenticity, walking/hiking, joy, creativity, being human, adventure, presence, NOW. Same for Don except replace figure skating with Formula One motor racing.

Beautiful photos Nicole. I always love seeing the poppies of spring. They are one of my favourite flowers. We both did flower posts at the same time!

I have a few pictures in a box in the back of our storage locker. I didn’t have a camera in those days. I was there 84-90 and 95-97. One of these days I’ll write about it. I lived in an old cabin with a wood stove. in summers I cooked in wilderness big-game-hunting and gold mining camps. In winters I cross-country skied a lot. It was a whole other life.

  6. lexklein – I’m a restless, world-wandering, language-loving, book-devouring traveler trying to straddle the threshold between a traditional, stable family life and a free-spirited, irresistible urge to roam. Even when I was young, I always wanted to be somewhere else. I was the kid who loved camp, vacations, sleepovers, and all forms of transportation. Did my restlessness spring from a love of languages and other cultures? From a fiction fixation and all the places I’ve visited on the pages of a globeful of authors? I think it’s more primordial, though, an innate itch that demands scratching at regular intervals. I’m sure I won’t have a travel story every time I add to this blog, but I’ve got a lot! I’m a pretty happy camper (literally), but there is some angst as well as excitement in always having one foot out the door. Come along for the trip as I take the second step …

I’m sure they will. I just don’t do well with transition and lack of sleep. I’ve fallen behind in the blog but most of all the sleep deprivation has been the toughest. It reminds me of when my kids were babies and how I didn’t sleep much for years. It was so hard. Good news is things will get easier soon. 🙂

  8. anotherday2paradise – Durban South Africa and Florida USA – I enjoy writing about absolutely anything, and started blogging with WordPress in 2012. This was my 'Hammock Lady' blog, and I really enjoyed sharing my travels here: http://adinparadise.wordpress.com/ In November 2013, I decided it was time for a change of scenery, so I started my blog afresh, and here it is. I love to travel, and have been fortunate enough to do two round-the-world trips and visit more than forty countries so far. This year we visited our 7th continent, Antarctica. I enjoy photographing wildlife, especially in my backyard in Florida. I was born and brought up in England. My husband and I emigrated to South Africa in 1970. We now live in Florida, USA. I have a son and a daughter and five gorgeous grandchildren currently aged between 6 and 21 years. I'm so happy that you've taken the time to visit my blog, and would love for you to join me on my travels. Sylvia.

  11. janaline's world journey – I am addicted to travelling and have been exploring the world for nearly two decades. Here I share my travel stories and pictures so that you can share in some of the amazing experiences I have along the way. When you travel you experience the culture and get to know the people of a country. Once you step out of your comfortzone you get to know the real country and experience it in a different way than ordinary tourists. My camera usually accompanies me everywhere I go so you can "see" and read about my journeys.
