I dream of a future when all girls can go to school

In honor of the amazing news today and International Day of the Girl tomorrow, I am dedicating this post to one amazing young woman who risked her life for her belief that all girls should have the right to go to school.Β Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani girl shot by the Taliban two years agoΒ for her desire to learn was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this morning along with Kailash Satyarthi of India, a campaigner for the end ofΒ child laborΒ and freeing children from trafficking.

At 17, Malala is the youngest ever winner of a Nobel Prize. Since the shocking news hit the world that young Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman, Malala has fought tirelessly for the rights of girls worldwide to go to school. After her remarkable recovery in a British hospital, Malala has become a global icon for girl’s rights. To further her work, she co-founded the Malala FundΒ with her father Ziauddin Yousafzai (an educator and social activist) and Shiza Shahid (a Pakistani social entrepreneur and activist) to amplify, advocate and invest in girl’s education. To read more about the amazing work Malala does around the world for girls, click here.

Congratulations Malala on following your dreams! You are amazing and truly changing the world.

These girls need you and others to stand up for their right to education.

  2. I wrote a song with that express feeling. I should have called it Malala’s Song, but I called it β€œEcoutez-Moi” from the album Manaus Where Two Rivers Meet. It is a topic very close to my heart.

Yes Leslie! It is amazing. I am so happy. Girls need to have the same opportunities as boys. I am very happy Malala won the award.

      • Me too. That young girl (now a woman) has a lot of courage. She will take her country far into the future.

Here, here, an amazingly inspiring story and an objective that will one day overcome the worst aspects of cultures ruled by religious dogma. She is an example to us all.

  5. Excellent post and photos. This came at the most opportune time when we are celebrating one of the biggest successes of human kinds, and that too achieved by a just 17-year old girl. I wonder sometimes when a 17-year old can think and commit herself to such a cause for the betterment of the society, why there is so much unrest in this world, so much anarchy, so much intolerance. Why humans are so willing to taste the blood of other humans. This is so terrible. I really wish that the achievements of these two leading lights will inspire many more and we will have more such Malalas and Kailashs in this world.

  7. scillagrace – Oregon – I began this blog when I entered my 50th year of life. I have always enjoyed writing and taking photographs. My sister did a profound personal photo project the year she was turning 50, so once again, I followed in her footsteps, taking her idea and doing it my way. My life has changed dramatically in recent years, and I have changed with it. My husband died, my kids moved out, I sold our home and moved to Wisconsin, then followed my kids to Oregon. I suppose I have a lot to process, and I'm sure there will be more.

  11. anotherday2paradise – Durban South Africa and Florida USA – I enjoy writing about absolutely anything, and started blogging with WordPress in 2012. This was my 'Hammock Lady' blog, and I really enjoyed sharing my travels here: http://adinparadise.wordpress.com/ In November 2013, I decided it was time for a change of scenery, so I started my blog afresh, and here it is. I love to travel, and have been fortunate enough to do two round-the-world trips and visit more than forty countries so far. This year we visited our 7th continent, Antarctica. I enjoy photographing wildlife, especially in my backyard in Florida. I was born and brought up in England. My husband and I emigrated to South Africa in 1970. We now live in Florida, USA. I have a son and a daughter and five gorgeous grandchildren currently aged between 6 and 21 years. I'm so happy that you've taken the time to visit my blog, and would love for you to join me on my travels. Sylvia.
