Rooftops

This week’s photo challenge happens to be a favorite of mine: Pattern. I adore the patterns of the brilliant rusty orange-colored tiled rooftop found in homes throughout the world. Two places in particular have my favorite styles: Southern France and Antigua, Guatemala. Here is a sample of some of the dynamic patterned rooftops I’ve captured throughout my travels.

      When we were in France a few weeks ago, we spent some time in Marseille and took a day tour through the perched villages of Luberon. They were amazing! I just haven’t gotten to posting from there yet as I still have zillions left from Paris! I love the South of France!!!!

  16. Harold Green – San Miguel de Allende, Mexico – I love exploring different cultures of our world with my wife Rita and my Nikon SLR camera. I try to bring back the overlaying rich textures of a different country’s lifestyle. To capture a moment in time as I float down a river, walk a mud-street village, hike a sand dune at sunrise, stroll up a jungle trail or cruise through the workshop of a regional craftsman, is a pleasure and a dream. It is a joy of mine to share these images with children and young students in hopes that my images will inspire a few of them to travel and explore in-depth other cultures of the world with an open mind. I am a professional photographer with a host of digital SLR gear. I am retired and live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico with my wife Rita. In my previous life I owned an advertising/public relations agency in Houston, Texas where I launched my 25-year career as the agency’s Creative Director. Upon retirement, in 1989, I moved full-time to the island of Martha’s Vineyard before moving to Mexico in 2001. I was born in upstate New York in the small town of Auburn on the Finger Lakes. I attended The Northwood Preparatory School in Lake Placid, New York. After graduation I received a degree in advertising and marketing from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. The inspiration for my love of photography came from my father, who was an amateur photographer. As a young child, I spent many hours in his darkroom helping him hang black & white prints with a clothes pin.

        What part are you going to? So envious as I really love Italy! The weather should be good too! It was actually really cold in Paris when we were there but much better in Southern France. Spring hadn’t come yet which was disappointing to not see everything in bloom.

  20. Truly wonderful, I love all the colours on the rooftops. Here in Canada, we sadly mostly see asphalt tile and mostly in black.

      Thanks! I live in Minneapolis and here in the city we have all old homes of different styles. Some do have the gorgeous tile roofs but they are very expensive. I love the look though!
