Living in a Winter Wonderland

“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”
― John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America

Ok…I said I was done posting but what can I do? Nature has serendipitously dropped a brilliant white wet snowstorm on us and it is magical outside. After gearing up the kids and putting on my snowshoes, I headed to my lovely lake and snapped away. It was utterly breathtaking outside.

We spent the rest of the afternoon reliving my youth by sledding down our neighborhood hill and throwing snowballs. It was a delightful day!

Thanks Angeline! It is still so beautiful out!

  1. Wow what a winter wonderland… it looks so puffy and fresh 🙂 It is pics like these that makes me miss snow.
Home had a snowfall with a little bit where I am from. Further north enough to open the ski hills. That is early for us since maybe the 90’s or early 2000 we haven’t had a lot of snow before January. Then a day later it warmed up (16c)… crazy weather!
Shangahi has been cold, but no snow yet this year. 2 years ago we had snow twice, last year just flurries over Chinese New Year.

Are you from Ontario? I can’t remember exactly what part of canada….

      • Yes… from the Niagara Area

  2. Amazing photos. Very clear and crisp and everyone looks happy 🙂 How much snow did you get? We still have yet to see any significant snow and I just read that we may get storms tonight. In December, in Ohio?? I guess for now I’ll have to live through your wonderful snow photos. 🙂

I think we got about 10 inches or so. It is beautiful and still quite a mess! Where do you live in Ohio? Do you mostly get lake effect snow or real big dumps like we do?

      • I live in southern Ohio, in between Cincinnati and Dayton. I am about 30 miles south of what they call the Snow Belt (I70). We do not get lake effect snows here because we are too far south. Some winters we get a few big storms and there is snow on the ground most of Jan & Feb. However, other winters, like last year, we got very little snow. Usually we get little bits at a time, like 2-4 inches each week in Jan and Feb.

Oh ok! I’ve probably been out that way. I used to have the entire state of Ohio years ago when I was a midwest sales manager based in Chicago. Ohio is really a pretty state!

  3. Lydia Bess – I drove across country from Atlanta to Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver BC. On the way home, I visited Minneapolis, Gary, Chicago and several other cities. Since I wasn't on a schedule, I was free to stop and explore along the way. I began this blog to share my thoughts, feelings and impressions as I explored the country...and myself when necessary. I hope you find my postings interesting and inspiring. Feel free to share your comments and experiences. Thanks for reading!

Our “storm” didn’t really turn out to be a lot of snow…haha..but instead a lot of freezing rain and rain in different area…but still..at least we have snow on the ground now 🙂

Oh I love Montreal! What a beautiful place. So you do or don’t have snow? I was there in December years ago.

  7. restlessjo – Hi! I’m Jo! Johanna when I’m feeling posh, Jan to my Dad, and Joasiu to my Polish family. A bit of a mix-up, that’s me. The one constant, however, is my restless nature. I love to travel and to explore our world. It doesn’t have to be the big wide world. I can be ridiculously happy not too far from home, so long as I’m seeking new horizons. Of course I have a wish list, and it was to help me fulfil my dreams that I started to write travel guides for a venture called Simonseeks. I’d always kept a travel diary, and it was hugely satisfying to share my experiences and to make new friends who shared my passion for travel. Alas, Simonseeks hit a few troubles, but I still find myself writing about my travels. I’ve become addicted. I’d love to share them, and to make more friends. So, it has to be a blog- right? Or do I mean- write?

🙂 I actually love the cold as long as I dress right. Last night it was only 17 degree but the kids and I played outside in the snow with all the Christmas lights and the clear starry night. It was so beautiful! My only problem is I start to miss the vitamin D so I’m using my little sunlight right now in the morning to help that and try to run during the week outside too! 🙂

      • you’re smart to be aware of vitamin d.
the stars are twinkling here tonight. i had been inside and had a sudden urge to go to the balcony. the river is dead quiet tonight, and i noted the stars the moment i stepped outside. and then -zippppp!- a meteor flashed by! hd i been ten seconds later,i would have missed it!
