The Power of One Voice

I want to give all my readers a huge thank you for all the wonderful, supportive comments I received after my post The Color of Guatemala was Freshly Pressed.  I could not have been more humbled by the beautiful, encouraging comments I received from fellow readers and bloggers.  It was a big pleasure to read each comment and I’m in the process of responding to each and every one. So thank you, everyone! You are why I keep blogging!

What could not be more ironic, however, is the timing of my Freshly Pressed post. I wrote it hurriedly last Friday morning as I was desperately trying to get in one last post done before I left to our nation’s capital to the Results International conference on ending global poverty.

I have spent the last four days in Washington DC learning about the very issues that keep poverty rampant in so many parts of the world. The needless dying and suffering that can be preventable by simple measures such as safe drinking water, vaccines, access to health care and nutrition. Measures that overall do not cost very much yet still have not been a priority.

It was one of the most inspiring four days of my life. To see so many people from all over the world come together to fight for social justice and be a voice for the voiceless millions of people needlessly dying and suffering, gave me hope again in humanity and the power of people to make change.

Our last day in DC culminated in hundreds of visits on Capital Hill to our Members of Congress where we were a voice for the voiceless. It is my hope and dream that someday one of my posts on the social injustice that is happening all over the world can be honored by being Freshly Pressed and my message of hope can reach more people.

    Congrats on your “Freshly Pressed” post. I hope that all the words which have been spoken at this conference, will indeed bear fruit. There is actually so much wealth here in Africa, but it just doesn’t get spent on the people and causes that need it most. The elite live a life of luxury, whilst the poor continue to suffer.

      Thank you for your comment! Yes indeed there is a lot of people who have a lot in Africa as well. I remember in Cape Town seeing some of the gorgeous places along the beachfront. I also hope that more can be done and the work we started can continue on and make some significant progress. It takes time and effort! 🙂
