The Signs of Guatemala

I have always been fascinated by signs, especially when I travel.    Signs can be a work of art or a simplistic view into an unknown culture.  They can be fun, fanciful, beautiful or rather plain.  But they are always one thing:  A glimpse into the life of a place, whether it be a home, a building, a store or a country.

Here are some of my favorite signs that I found during my recent stay in Guatemala.

Author’s note: Thank goodness once again for my fellow blogger and friend Lucy Brown of Loca4Motion! I had inadvertently been downloading all my images to the uttermost image quality which means (a) I used up all my WordPress storage space (b) It took ungodly long for the posts to load when you were on my site (c) It took me forever to upload my images and finish a post since I love lots of pictures (d) I spent a lot of money on upgrading my storage space unknowingly. Oh well! Rookie mistake! But it is fixed now!

    Those signs remind me of the old town of Manila, the Philippines. One thing that Manila and Antigua share: both were Spanish colonies. Have you been to Spain? My guess is all signs in Spain just look like those in Antigua (or it’s actually the other way around).

      I use a MAC and I just upload them to a medium resolution size. I was initially doing maximum so it was using all my space. I also just do full size too. Does all this make sense? If not, let me know and we can talk further! 🙂

        I use Photoshop to first export them and then upload them into WP. When I export them from Photoshop I’ve been selecting the “maximum” resolution setting instead of the medium. This has been my problem. Not sure if this is how you do it or not. I don’t know any other way to get my photos out of Photoshop and onto wordpress! Does this help?

  7. I love taking pictures of signs for 2 reasons #1 some just stand out begging me to photograph them & #2 use as a start to a new series of photos to jog my memory later as to where we went in our travels (especially a 7 to 9 day trip). Thanks for sharing – great pics!

      Good! I’m not the only one! I also started taking pics of signs of the museums, churches and streets I’ve been on so I can remember them (like you said above). In Antigua, I took over 400 pictures and still even with the signs am a little confused. Is it hitting 40? Ha Ha. My memory seems to be fading. Or else can I blame it on a busy life and kids always nagging me? 🙂
