PrAna #7DayStretch: Clothing for an adventurous mom

prAna is Sanskrit for breath, life and vitality of the spirit….

For those of you who are regular readers of my blog, you probably know by now that I rarely do product reviews. However, when one of my absolute favorite clothing brands, PrAna asked me if I’d be willing to participate in their campaign called the #7DayStretch, I could not refuse. Ever since the new PrAna store opened up in my neighborhood a few years back, I have been a devoted customer of their products and that is a lot said given the fact that I generally don’t consider myself a shopper.

So why do I love this company and their clothing so much? Easy! The clothing rocks for all the kinds of things I love to do in life whether it be hanging out writing on my blog, traveling  somewhere via car or plane or doing anything active. It is highly durable, comfortable and lasts forever all while looking great.

So who is PrAna and what inspired them to begin? Here is their story

In 1992, Beaver Theodosakis and his wife Pam started prAna in their garage in Carlsbad, California, and remain involved to this day. Together, they built prAna slowly and with purpose, taking care to limit the size of its footprint. They sewed the first pieces themselves and labeled them with tags from homemade recycled paper. The clothes were originally shipped in fruit boxes they gathered from the local grocery store.

prAna is Sanskrit for breath, life and vitality of the spirit. This ancient word holds great meaning for us, and so we borrowed it for our name. It lifts our aspirations and helps guide our actions towards becoming an evermore socially mindful and environmentally sustainable organization.

This year, PraAna celebrates 22 years in existence. We began simply, rooted in idealism and a timeless belief that companies like theirs should strive to give much more than they take from the world. That notion keeps us focused on making products that look great, but that are also easier on the planet’s resources.

Our customers are fun-loving, soulful people who travel well, play hard and care about the impact they have on the world around them. That’s who we are, too. We believe that a little yoga – or whatever form of moving meditation you choose – can help you breathe deeply through a tough day, or laugh in the face of a traffic jam. And we believe that when you reach into your closet, there should be something there that reflects who you are, how you feel and what you value most. We’ve focused on the details, and aren’t afraid to hang it out when it comes to bold colors and whimsical patterns.

That’s why in our collections you’ll find apparel and accessories that are made using fewer toxins and chemicals. In all that we do, we work toward the most ambitious goals with regard to the use of energy, water and chemicals in manufacturing. As a partner of bluesign, prAna is already guided by the textile industry’s top standards – avoiding, wherever possible, processes that can cause harm to people or the environment. Additionally, our clothes are created with organic cotton, natural fibers and recycled materials. And, prAna helped pioneer Fair Trade Certified apparel and became the first major company in North America to produce and market Fair-Trade Certified styles. Today, we’re offering more certified goods than ever.

prAna is still based in Carlsbad, and though we’ve grown, we continue to live and nurture our core values. We’re proud that many of our original employees have stayed with us to put into practice the same intention as those early days. In clean energy alone, our positively-charged changes and the “greening” of our electricity usage has cut greenhouse gas emissions to the tune of 71,961 metric tons – the same as taking 13,180 cars off the road or protecting 16,355 acres of forest.

Our actions and products have always been inspired by athletes like world-class climber Chris Sharma — who has been with us from the beginning — and renowned yogis like Shiva Rea. These friends, along with our customers, help inform our designs and push us to keep reaching. We’re on a journey, always evolving, and like a handful of great companies in our industry, our commitment to sustainability, community and right action continues to inspire others to think in the same way. Being part of this forward momentum will continue to keep us innovating and exploring, to strike that fine balance between commerce and idealism – doing well while doing good.

What is the #7DayStretch?

The #7DayStretch is a campaign to promote brand awareness and recognition of PrAna’s fabulous clothing line. The goal of this campaign is to wear a pair of PrAna pants for 7 full days doing all the things you love to do and share it via social media. As a blogger, I got to select the pair of PrAna pants I would like in exchange for a commitment to wearing them for a week and giving my honest opinion of the pants. I chose the Halle Pants in olive green.

My thoughts on the pants:

  • They fit like a glove and can be worn for basically anything! They are my go-to pants for travel as they are stretchy, comfortable and don’t wrinkle so they are wonderful for a long plane or car ride. The fit is true to size too which makes online ordering easy.
  • The pants are fabulous for any active, outdoor pursuits like walking, hiking, climbing and even light biking. You can also wear them for gentle yoga.
  • The material is very durable and given the history of my other PrAna pants, they should last years. The fabric is highly water resistant too which is fantastic for any outdoor activities.
  • They look great coming right out of the dryer or suitcase. No need to iron the pants as the fabric quickly falls into place the moment you put them on.

Why do I love PrAna?

  • Sustainable – PrAna is highly committed to providing sustainability in the materials and energy they use as well as the provision of fair wages and working conditions.
  • High quality clothing at a fair price.
  • The products are fun, fashionable and comfortable. Finally they created a product line for me!
  • You can return them anytime, even after wearing them for months if there is any issue. I have never returned a thing.

FullSizeRender-10So what do I think after a week of wearing these pants? They rock! I love them and am a devoted customer of their brand.

The Halle pant is available for $79, and comes in 5 different colors.  You can check out these pants as well as all the wonderful products they have to offer for both men and women at PrAna’s site

prAna has offered my readers a 15% discount code good for any prAna items you’d like to order, including anything from their new Fall line. The discount is good from August 20-26, 2015, during this #7DayStretch campaign.  Use discount code:  7DayStretchF15CMM

I received a pair of prAna Halle pants at no cost, to participate in this #7DayStretch challenge and share my experience with you.  All opinions are my own.

P.S. I love my pants!

    • Thanks Sylvia. They are awesome pants and I love them for traveling or even just hanging out. They are made to last too which is important to me as I hate buying clothing and have it fall apart in only a year. PrAna and some of the other brands I love like Lucy last years. Very good quality.
