The Early Bird Gets the Worm

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love”. – Marcus Aurelius

I am not an early bird. As much as I’d love to be able to wake at the rising sun, I just can’t.  My natural clock seems to prefer the 7 am rising time. When I do have to get up early for a flight or something else, I am a little bit grumpy. In fact, I actually really detest those super early flights because I do not sleep a wink the night before tossing and turning worrying about how early I have to get up and how tired I will be. Put frank, I hate getting up before dawn.

The rare occasions (that is after I was out of the baby/toddler phase of life and had children who would actually sleep past 6 am) that I’ve risen early for an outdoor pursuit, it has been definitely worth it. The golden hour as the sun begins to rise above the horizon is breathtakingly serene. It is a peaceful time of day that if I had more willingness to get up, I would surely consider doing morning yoga to the rising sun or grabbing my camera to take some shots.

Maybe if I could get myself out of bed, I’d get more pictures like these below. The rare occasions when I’ve had to just do it. Or maybe I’m only dreaming.

This post was inspired by the Weekly Photo Challenge: Early Bird. Something I’ve just got to realize I will never be.

  4. These are great morning scenes! And ha – I just posted similar thoughts about getting up early, but to me even your 7 am preference is an ungodly hour! My body clock wakes me at 8 or 8:30, but I do drag myself out at 6:30 on work days – ugh!

  5. I am so with you on this one. I only get up before dawn when I have to, and wish I could do it more often because of the beautiful light for photography, and for the beautiful stillness of the world at the break of day.

  6. Awesome photos, I am a night worker, so I usually always see the early morning sun, at daybreak, and yes it is truely breath taking. I love the early morning hours. Enjoyed your photos very much, and post, I also like to do yoga practices as well. Have a blessed day.
