Nighttime is the day’s way of saying goodbye. Reminding us that yet another day of our lives has passed and it is time to rest before a new day begins. I love watching the color of the clouds and sky as night begins to fall over the mountains. It is my favorite time of day and brings me so much peace and reflection.
“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky”. –Rabindranath Tagore
“The sky grew darker, painted blue on blue, one stroke at a time, into deeper and deeper shades of night.” ― Haruki Murakami, Dance Dance Dance
“Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work”. – A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
While I enjoy nightfall best somewhere lost in nature, the onset of night is also quite lovely in cities as well. I love watching the magical light and colors bounce off the buildings as the sun begins to fall below the horizon.

Beautiful, Nicole! I haven’t seen nighttime in France photos this beautiful.
Thanks Amy! I was thinking this post was a little boring but now I better go back and take another peak! Maybe its because I know my photos too well! 🙂
Your photos are just sensational!
Leslie
Thank you Leslie! I remember being there taking each and every one. Fun to remember them!

Paris desde la vision de Thirdeyemom… Que lindo!
Merci! Gracias!
While those are all wonderful photos, I especially like the one with the light inside the house. There’s something so cozy and familiar about scenes like that. I really enjoy looking into rooms that are lit at night, not from any prurient interest but just to see the slice of interior and the feel of warmth and family.

Thanks Janet! Seems like that one is popular! That photo is of one of the lodges we hiked to in Vanoise National Park where the other mountain night shots are. It was my favorite lodge of all. Gorgeous, delicious food and so nice after camping for a few days!
I love your photo’s of Marseille. My wife and I were there last year, but didn’t get too many great photos. Thanks for sharing. Ken.

Great website! Pretty cool to publish a novel! I have always wanted to but realized it may not be my strength. I love Marseille. I lived there in 1993 and the photos in this post were my first time back in 20 years! It was even better!
Such an uplifting and inspiring post as always Nicole. The photographs are really quite wonderful and your quotes just perfect. Lovely 🙂
Oh thanks Andrew! I’m really behind and playing catch up on my blog reading!
OMG. These photos are unbelievable. I love all of them!
Why isn’t this a wonderful comment to receive! Thank you!!!
You are vey welcome!
Nicole, As usual wonderful photographs that lights me up while scrolling down. Like Janet, I like the photograph of the house where light beams through the window. I also liked the yacht’s lined up glowing at night. Thank you for sharing.
Love n Peace,
Vannie.
Thanks Vannie! That was a little mountain refuge we spent the night at after hiking. The mountain shots are from the same place, Savoie, France. 🙂
BEAUTIFUL PICTURES…..
Thank you!!
You’ve captured some great skies in the Vanoise, Bastille and Marseille images!
Thanks! 🙂 I don’t have many night shots. They are very hard to take and usually I’m not thinking of taking photos during the night.
Fantastic pics for the challenge, Nicole. I particularly love the one with the light shining out of the window. So pretty. 🙂
Thanks Sylvia! That photo is so popular and funny this is I included it at the last minute. Glad you like the photos! 🙂
Engaging feet of images…
Thanks! 🙂
Oh, how I detest autocorrect. I meant: Engaging set of images.
Ha ha…that’s ok. I hate it too and many times I’m using my iPhone to read posts since I’m on the run. 🙂
A collection of beautiful images. Love the mood, the ambiance and the colour tones.
Oh thanks! Means a lot coming from you since your work is amazing! I rarely take night photos. They are extremely hard!
This was stunning! It’s my favorite time of day and you captured it wonderfully
Why thank you! 🙂

Beautiful photos Nicole. I particularly like the shot through the cabin window. Very warm and cozy looking. ~James
Thanks James! Funny everyone seems to like the cabin window one the best! 🙂 Glad I included it.
Some real beauties in there Nicole. The mountain shots are quite mystical but some of the cityscapes are fantastic!
Thanks Tina! 🙂
Ah! The joy of night time around the world… Love it! It is gorgeous everywhere… 🙂
Thanks Eliz!
So fun to see nighttime in many different cities. The late light over Paris is hard to beat, though! Lovely.
Thanks! 🙂
