Friday, August 1st marks the start of Blogust 2014, a month-long blog relay by some of the country’s top bloggers joining together to support the work of the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign in providing life-saving vaccines to children around the world. Since Blogust began two years ago, the campaign has successfully provided thousands of vaccines to children around the world. Last year, Blogust provided 36,000 vaccines just in one month from comments and shares. It is an amazing way to come together and help save lives!
I have been working as a advocate for the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign since its beginning in early 2012 and am a huge supporter. (You can read all my posts on Shot@Life here).
Every 20 seconds a child dies from a vaccine-preventable death. Yet we can change this tragic reality. We know that 1 in 5 children in the developing world do not have access to life-saving vaccines. Yet we have the tools and resources to prevent 1.5 million deaths each year – the equivalent to the number of children entering kindergarten in the US each year – by providing vaccines. For the mere cost of a week’s worth of coffee – $20 – you can give a child a lifetime of immunity from a deadly disease and save a life. It is easy. Simple. And it saves lives.
Your voice, your time and your support can change a child’s life forever.
What is Blogust?
Can a comment or share make a difference? With Blogust, it can.
Blogust is a month-long digital dialogue, bringing more than 25 of the most beloved online writers, photo and video bloggers and Shot@Life champions together to help change the world through their words and imagery. Each day we will bring you a personal story about Happy and Healthy Firsts. The Blogust contributors will participate in a blog relay, with one blogger posting each week day and a Shot@Life champion posting each Saturday for the month of August 2014.
You can find the Blogust posts all here: www.shotatlife.org/blogust

How it works:
For the second year in a row, Walgreens, the largest drug retailing chain in the United States, is partnering with Shot@Life to provide the vaccines for those who need them most.
Make an impact. Join the conversation
From August 1-31, for every comment or share of the Blogust posts on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or Instagram, Walgreens will help provide a life-saving vaccine (up to 60,000) to a child who needs it most.
Shot@Life was my first dive into advocacy work and social good blogging, and it has lead me down a wonderful path of using my voice to change the world. I am forever grateful for the opportunities that have come my way thanks to my work with Shot@Life and other social good campaigns.
This year, I am honored to be a member of Blogust and a United Nations Foundation Social Good Fellow. My Blogust post as a Shot@Life Champion will run on August 23rd on the Blogust website. I will also post a link here. Please support me by either sharing or commenting on my post that day. Remember every share via social media or comment will provide a life-saving vaccine to a child! It is so easy, takes so little time, yet has such an enormous impact on someone’s life!
I will also be attending the UN Foundation’s Social Good Summit this September in New York City as a Social Good Fellow. It will be my third year attending this amazing conference held during UN Week but my first year as a fellow. I can hardly wait!
