The Light of the Desert

“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow.” – Helen Keller

To me, light means hope and optimism. Positive energy that surrounds our soul and lifts our spirits. There is no other activist, writer and lecturer who has inspired me more when it comes to seeing the light than Helen Keller (1880-1968). As a blind woman whose eyes only saw darkness, the light from her strength, courage and soul out shown her blindness and enabled her to become one of the most inspiring women of her times.

Following are some of my favorite Helen Keller quotes matched against the beauty of the light of the Arizona desert. Hope it inspires you to reflect and see the power of the light to make your heart sing.

“Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy, and you shall form an invincible force against difficulties.” – Helen Keller

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.” – Helen Keller

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing”. – Helen Keller

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved. – Helen Keller

Let the light within us, guide us and warm our days with sunshine and beauty. Turn your face to the sky and you will not see the shadows.

  7. Thank you for creating this beautiful collection of quotes and photos. Indeed you (and Helen Keller) inspire. It reminds me to get out there and make a life instead of what some people do, sit around and wait for a life to happen. 😉 Cheers!

    • Oh thank you so much. I’ve been really out of sorts these days as my father is battling cancer. So my blog has been not as active. I do appreciate you thinking of me! 🙂 Hope all is well!

    • Thanks Kathy. I’m in need of light as life has been so insanely stressful. I was just in Arizona for my dad’s first chemo. He is doing great but this has just started and we have 4-6 long months ahead. You can imagine the stress.
