Drawing on the final days of a Minnesota summer

As the telltale signs of summer’s imminent end appear, it always is time for me to reflect on yet another wonderful, carefree summer. Summer has always had a special meaning to me perhaps given the fact that I have spent almost my entire life in an extremely cold climate.

Lake Harriet

Summer on Lake Harriet near my home.

Summer means carefree days spent outside riding my bicycle along the lake. Roasting marshmallows over a red hot fire on a mid-summer night. Staying up late and watching the sun set across one of Minnesota’s many lakes or star-gazing into the deep dark sky. Rolling my windows down and playing the music loud inside my car while letting my hair blow wild in the wind. Popsicles on the front porch. Lemonade stands on the sidewalk. Barbecues and sweet corn with butter dripping down my face. August home grown tomatoes, and of course my lovely summer garden.

Summer means so much to me and my family. It is the one time during the year that we can all relax a bit and be more carefree. Walk barefoot across the soft green grass. Stay up a little later and enjoy the late night twilight. Eat more ice cream. Take a jump in the lake. Laugh a bit more often, and enjoy our unique togetherness that will end soon once school resumes and we are all going our separate ways during the day.

Oh….how I love summer and how much I will miss you. Here is a tribute to my most favorite, carefree moments of a Minnesota summer. The best place to be!

The priceless moments with my children during a fun summer day are memories I will never forget….

Or all those gorgeous, carefree nights where nature was my only entertainment…

  2. Looks like you had a lovely, family summer, Nicole! I envy you that. Reminds me of summers as a kid with my family! We spent most of it outside running in fields, growing our own veggies, riding ponies and playing in boats on the river. 🙂

    • Oh thanks. Isn’t that what summer is all about? I have so many wonderful memories of my childhood too. Wish life could be as carefree now! 🙂

  7. Thank you for your wonderful summer. Hopefully I’ll remember in the next cold winter still in it, then I can warm myself at your warm and wonderful pictures from the wine glass on the lake and laughing children.

  8. Love the two versions of the foot photo. Pretty cool. Glad you’ve had a good summer and sorry it’s now waning. Hope you have a happy fall, as well.

    Hugs from Ecuador,

    • Thanks Kathy! It is in the high 90s this week….sticky hot….and the kids start school tomorrow! Wow, life is really going to change. I plan on spending a lot more time developing my blog and getting back into reading others! I feel out of touch these days!
