The instant of Instagram

Lately I’ve developed a slight obsession. It is called Instragram and I’ve been having so much fun with it that I can’t quite seem to quit. I downloaded the free app a year ago when I got my first iPhone but never really used it. It seemed like just another time-consuming social media gadget that would just suck up more of my already sacred amount of free time.

Fast forward a year after I had first caught wind of Instagram and now it is becoming a favorite hobby. Why? Because it is wonderful! Not only do I thoroughly enjoy uploading all sorts of old travel pictures and “instagramming” them, I also really love to take pictures on the fly using my iPhone and then instantly changing the entire feeling of the shot with Instagram. It really is quite amazing that you can do so much all on that tiny little iPhone screen.

I can change a photo’s light, feeling, emphasis, structure and mood all by playing around with the different themes. I can also zoom in and really focus in on something special in a picture without having to download it to my computer and edit it. It is so much fun!  If you haven’t tried it before, I highly recommend giving it a whirl. I also have it on my iPad as well but don’t use it much there since I find it much more convenient to use my iPhone. It is always with me and within two minutes I can snap a photo, change it on Instagram and share it with the world. How fantastic!

I also enjoy perusing under the travel hashtags (#travel) and daydreaming about my next trip. I love photography and especially enjoy gorgeous pictures from around the world. Instagram has all the travel photos I could possibly need without having to read anything, making it easy to just sit there and be a page through gorgeous photos.

Enough ranting about Instagram. Here are some of my favorite pictures I’ve “Instagrammed”. If you are interested in checking out my site, it can be found here:

If you have an instagram site, please let me know as I’d love to follow you!

Happy Instagramming!

  1. I know they’re great images, Nicole, but I prefer your “normal” photography. You’ve taken such stunning stuff over the past year or so. Of course, I could just be jealous because I don’t possess an iPhone!

    • Oh thanks Jo! I don’t normally use the Instagram pics for my blog. Only sometimes. So rest assured, you’ll still see my normal pics! This is just a fun pastime! 🙂 Thanks as always for your wonderful support!

  2. I had used it quite a bit for awhile, stopped, and then coincidentally, Otto Von Munchow had a post about Instagram today too. So now I’m back, and you can follow me at Angelinem1. I’ll be looking for you there 🙂

    • I tend to always have my iPhone with me and it really has become a habit. I do love using it. For bigger trips, I bring my good camera but sometimes it is nice to have something so small and not obvious. I felt uncomfortable bringing my nice camera to Honduras where it is so poor but the phone was fine as everyone seems to have a cellphone these days, even in poor countries.

    • Yes it is amazing isn’t it! You can do so much on that little phone. I never thought I’d be so obsessed with my iPhone but it really is a life-saver especially when traveling. As for Instagram, I love it! 🙂

Great photos! I’m jealous–I don’t have an iPhone. In fact I don’t own a cell phone. Another way for me to save money now that I work from home.
