“Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.”

-Pedro Calderon de la Barca

It is hard to visit Guatemala and not become completely entranced by her greenery. The color green can be found in every place you look- from the verdant terraced farmlands, to the lush fertile peaks of the volcanoes. After a long, cold colorless winter arriving in Green Guatemala almost hurts your eyes and reminds me of the constant rebirth and cycle of life.

A gallery of rebirth and life….

  1. Absolutely stunning photos. We had a trip scheduled to Guatemala and before we could even reach it (we were in Playa del Carmen) we received the call that my dear friend who was terminally ill was in intensive care. We flew back to the states but hope someday to visit this beautiful country. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Oh that is too bad, especially about your friend. You would really love Guatemala. It is a little dangerous but as long as you travel smartly you’ll be find. It is so spectacular…the landscape, the culture and the people. A special place in my heart! 🙂

  2. Magnificent. My parents were born there and have a house there as well, and with the Chicago winter fast approaching, I wish I could go with them this coming month.

Instead, I’ll live vicariously through these photos.

    1. Wow, so you know firsthand how beautiful it is! I have a ton of pictures on my blog on Guatemala. Just search “Guatemala” on the bottom and you’ll be brought back to your beloved home! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for the wonderful comment! 🙂 I am going to have to revisit these pictures as winter sets in here in Minnesota and the world goes from brown to white! 🙂

    1. Oh I am sure you do! I’m looking forward to heading to Honduras this January to see what it is like and if it at all reminds me of lovely Guatemala. 🙂

      1. I never made it to Honduras 🙁 I’m sure it’ll be another great experience for you with plenty more photo ops! Can’t wait to see and hear about it! Safe travels!

    1. Thank you! I’ve learned something new as I haven’t heard that term before but it sounds cool! Yes, Guatemala is an amazing country. So much beauty from the greenery to the volcanoes to the people and the Mayan clothing. I really loved it there!

    1. Why thank you! I had my other post called “The COlor of Guatemala” be Freshly Pressed a while back. That one has lots of brightly colored photos but I do like this one too for its reminder of nature. Thanks! 🙂

    1. Thank you! I was volunteering in Xela and these photos are taken a little outside on the way to the hot springs. I also went to Antigua. I have a ton of posts and pictures on Guatemala as I loved it so much! 🙂

  4. Hi Nicole, beautiful photography. First of all i want to thank you for this beautiful pictures. I am from India and never heard of Guatemala. There are very few Latin nations I knew, until a couple of months back. I am working on a project that requires me to study on Latin Nations. The place is awesome and I must say there are place in India that are similar to some of your pictures.

    Love,
    Vannie.

  5. Oh, I am so homesick right now. I lived there for three years and it was unbelievably green in the country side. Guatemala City… well, not so much and that is where I lived. My mouth is just watering for the chiltepe (the little green chili peppers) in the photo, Amazing photos! Thank you for the visual feast!

    1. I’ve gotten a lot of responses from people who had lived in Guatemala. Sounds like the place is special in many peoples hearts. I can only imagine! Glad you enjoyed the post and check out more of mine on Guatemala if you want to relive it again! 🙂 I took almost 800 pics in one week! 🙂 I must have been inspired!

  6. Absolutely stunning photos, Nicole – congrats on being Freshly Pressed!

Have also been meaning to tell you that your blog looks wonderful using this theme (Gridspace). It suits your content so well, and yet retains elements of your earlier layouts.

  7. Thanks for sharing the “eye candies” of Guatemala. This couldn’t be better timing as I am heading to Guatemala/Central America in 9 days. I loved that this is “non tourist” and a little off the beathen path. I’ve been browsing many RTW blogs and eventually, all photos looks very similar since all the travelers go to the same or similar popular tourist locations. Great photos.

    1. Wonderful! You will love Guatemala! It is a beautiful place and I’ve written a lot of posts on it (not sure if you saw them or not). I loved climbing the volcano and wished I had the chance to go to Lake Atitlin. Oh well. I loved it so much I hope to go back. Have a great time! 🙂

  8. The green green grass of home…For some reason, that’s what was playing in my I head as I was taking a look at each photo. This is such an eye refreshing post!

  9. Absolutely gorgeous photos. A good friend of mine lives in Xela, after moving back to Guatemala from Canada. It’s nice to see some photos from the area. Thanks!

  10. Reblogged this on who4u and commented:
green is not a primary color….red, yellow and blue are primary, green, orange and purple are secondary because green is made from the combination of yellow and blue, therefore secondary to those two primary colors!!
