Photo taken last night from bus upon entering Xela.

Yesterday was a very long travel day yet I was rewarded when we finally reached the town of Xela. As we were driving down the valley into the town, the sun began to set and the most magical sunbeams of light I have ever seen burst out of the clouds, streaming down into the valley. My only regret is that I could not stop to take a picture. Thus I only was able to get this one picture which does not even come close to doing justice of the beautiful site.

The power and mystique of the neighboring volcanoes seems to be calling me. Looks like I will have to do a hike!

Stay tuned….

  1. Hi ThirdEyeMom,
I might have missed it, but where are you headed and what for? Great pics, keep them coming.

    1. No problem. I am in Quetzeltenengo (aka Xela) Guatemala for a week to learn Spanish, the culture and volunteer a little bit. For the last two years, I’ve taken different volunteer trips (Costa Rica and Morocco—which I wrote about on my blog) and this year I wanted to try something different. I am here alone, living with a family for a week and taking classes during the day. So that sums it up! Thanks for your comment! I appreciate it!

    1. Thanks Kathy! I am so exhausted. It has been quite a trip already. I have not slept much as there are ten people living in this house so it is always a bit loud and busy. Tomorrow i have to get up at 4:30 am for the sunrise hike but I can’t wait! My brain is a little fried of learning Spanish. Did you feel it was difficult living in other places with a language barrier? I find it exhausting yet I am learning…slowly!
