My favorite street in Chicago: Armitage

October 24, 2012 by thirdeyemom

One of the most quintessential streets in the entire city of Chicago is Armitage Avenue. Located in the historic heart of trendy, urban Lincoln Park, Armitage is most known for its gorgeous tree-lined streets and classic, colorful Victorian row houses.  Upscale boutiques and restaurants pepper the avenue making it a must-see place on any visit to Chicago. A walk down Armitage Avenue is certain to leave you spellbound. The architecture is striking, the street is bustling and the sound of […]

A visit down memory road

October 23, 2012 by thirdeyemom

Last weekend my family and I went to visit friends and family in Chicago. It was our first trip back as a family in a couple of years and it was great to be back in such a special place. We stayed with some friends who live in Lincoln Park only two short blocks away from our church on Southport. I had to walk by it and take some photos, trying to remember that very special day years ago. Over […]

Eat. Drink. Shop. Chicago

October 1, 2011 by thirdeyemom

Within 48 hours in Chicago, we arranged to be EVERYWHERE.  We went to some of my old favorite haunts such as the decadent Webster Wine Bar (of course on Webster), we hit Bucktown and Wicker Park, two neighborhoods that were just starting to turn around when I lived in Chicago eleven years ago and now are exploding with condos, restaurants, bars and shops.  We hit Old Town for our afternoon wine and people watching.  And, we even ventured North to […]

A trip down memory lane in Chicago: Part II

September 30, 2011 by thirdeyemom

My life in Chicago did not start in lovely, fashionable Lincoln Park.  Instead, my first apartment in the city was in Boys Town at the intersection of Grace and Broadway, near Irving Park and the Lakefront.  For those who are not familiar with Chicago, this neck of the woods is on the border of some very seedy areas (it probably has improved somewhat over the last eleven years but my recent visit still told me to be careful!  When I lived there, […]

Old places and nostalgic neighborhoods of my life as a Chicago girl: Part I Lincoln Park

September 28, 2011 by thirdeyemom

It’s been eleven years now since I lived in Chicago.  A lot has changed.  I got married in July 2000 and then immediately moved to Minneapolis after our honeymoon to start our new life together. I love Chicago.  I spent five fabulous years there in my early to late twenties, getting my first real job, moving into a number of apartments, figuring our how to support myself, learning about life and growing up (all while having a tremendous amount of […]

48 hours in Chicago

September 26, 2011 by thirdeyemom

Landing in O’Hare…well past five o’clock. Hungry. Thirsty *not for water* and ready to go. I’m a woman on a mission as I buy my L ticket to town…. Here it comes…the good ole Chicago L, one of the world’s funnest, dirtiest elevated trains! Thirdeyemom is all smiles to be the “third-eye” only sans the mom part.  He He…. I made it in one piece.  I survived a decadent weekend of 48 hours in Chicago and I’m still moving!  The trip feels […]

My kind of town, Chicago

September 23, 2011 by thirdeyemom

I love that old Frank Sinatra song with the words, “it’s my kind of town, Chicago.  My kind of town Chicago“.  I can sing it in my head.  Yes, the windy city as they call it (not because of the wind but due to the politics….yet there is an awful lot of wind!) is one of my most favorite cities around.  It is fun, vibrant, young, hip, changing, exciting, and best of all, good old-fashioned Midwestern down to earth.  It was […]
